Gengqi (Greyson) Xiao is a PhD student in Second Language Acquisition at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His research examines the intersections of language, identity, and power. He investigates the reciprocal relationships among language ideologies, identities, and language learning; how sociohistorical and sociopolitical forces marginalize certain communities and their language practices; and how transformative frameworks such as translanguaging and English as a lingua franca can challenge existing linguistic hierarchies. His recent work has been accepted for publication in Applied Linguistics, Higher Education, Journal of Sociolinguistics, The Language Learning Journal, and The Modern Language Journal.
